Hi Roy,
Yeah I know. I thought about that some more and I recall I did that with
my RAK-7 (which also doesn't need any help) and it was to show some
guests that it *can* be done.
I am removing the radio and audio amp from an old entertainment set
(monaural). That one has P-P 6L6s and lots of volume. It also has AM-FM
receiver and two - count 'em - two extra inputs - one for record
changer/turntable AND another one for a microphone. Perfect for the
music room. Never mind the SS amplifier has all of that - twice.
There is a pair of humungus speakers in there. All will be remounted in
reworked wood from the chest high console. Meanwhile, when the power is
out I will be using all SS gear just to conserve the house battery.
As to extensive mods to the radios we talk about here - if I want
something different and I have to make holes and mount parts and bend
and tweak things I will make it from scratch and it will be a different
radio right from the drawing board. I *LIKE* single band (even single
mode) radios.
