I have one of those servicing brackets, butit's awkward to use. My
solution to local control (if you do not have the original C-24 local
control plug-in, or even if you do and want to have a phone jack on the
front), is to cut an aluminum rectangle the same size as the adapter and
put the controls and jack on it and find a female receptacle thatwill
fit on the plug in the rear of the adapter recess. Since there are four
threaded holes to screw it to, that makes a nice setup with no changes
to the receiver needed. Of course if you have an original rack you do
not need the phone jack. You still need a B+ and filament connection at
the back of the receiver. But I have used an A/C power supply mounted on
a dynamotor plate with its own cord and plug.
Yes, I know, I disturbed the originaldynamotor, but I carefully
disconnected the body of thething from the plate so it can be replaced.
Back in the day, when splined cable ends were to be had by the
dozen and damaged control cables were also to be had, as well as damaged
remote control heads, I took the little cranks off the controls and
attached them to splines, using the cable sheath ends and nuts to make
neat localcontrol cranks.

I have replaced 12 volt tubes with their 6 volt cousins, avoiding any
re-wiring.

It does indeed, Todd. I have some examples here in the slash and burn
pile that have scratches on them from those "ears" on the bracket that
are supposed to intercept the slot between cover and base. They seem to
be useful for two thing these days...display or with already modified
units. I gave mine to someone who wanted it for the latter. I just use
a standard rear connector from a rack, with an aluminum backshell to
capture the cable. Back in the day, scratches weren't something to
worry about too much, though it was frowned upon by the Navy Air arm
with their concern about salt spray damage on carrier aircraft equipment.

Gordon,
What did you use as a sub for the 12A6? 6K6?
