Wonder if any list member has built - or owned - one of Don Stoner W6TNS
Q5er receivers based on a BC-453? There were three that I know of
that were all described in CQ publications: the Novice Q5er from Jan
1956 the original SSB Q5er from Sept. 1956, and the 1959 update of the
SSB Q5er in the Stoner SSB Handbook.
The term "Q5er" was adopted by those who fed the 455 kc IF output of
their ham receivers into a BC-453 as a tunable IF but I'm talking about
the articles by Don Stoner (which by the way, were standalone converters
with plug-in connections to the 453, which only had the usual minimal
conversion (AC power, phone jack, and gain control).
