Speaking of "totally trashed", I have several MF band(s) receivers here that 
were modified to tune directly to 22.5 KHz for a VLF and propagation 
research project. The modifications were extensive, and are almost 
impossible to reverse. The tuning capacitor was modified, the coil box was 
completely trashed, the IFs were changed, the BFO was changed....

The receivers look to have been pretty much pristine when this was done 
too. This was back in the 1970s...

Still, IMHO, it was a real shame...

I am thinking of attempting to reverse the modifications on at least one of 
those, as I have all the original documentation from the techs who did them.

However, I am very ambivalent as to whether or not it is worth the effort.

Well, I may try it, just for the exercise...
