Perhaps if you read closer as to what he actually said you would understand 
his error. Tons is plural is it not, and in general use is used as an 
intensifier which means "a large amount". I used several for simplicity 
hoping most here would understand the intent.
But there is always that one who just doesnt get it (-;

The big guns caused far less shock to shipboard equipment due to it being 
such a low frequency. The jarring "crack" of the 5" and even the 3" guns 
were the ones that caused damage.
