Within the scope of what it was intended to do,
the BC-222 saw long service, was re-ordered 
and used in various applications, including as a "remote base"
via wireline and an adaptor. 
Its positive attributes were utter simplicity and resultant
ease of sparing and field service.  Its worst flaw was
its complex and short-lived battery.
The clunky separate headphone and mike were replaced 
(confirmed via photos) in field use by the handset. 
I have a BC-222 Signal-Corps modified 
to accept the twin-plug handset like that used with the BC-1000.
IIRC, during one of the MRCG meetings, BC-222 operation
was successfully tested. I'm hoping to revive my own sets
before that long dirt nap.
