I like the fuse wire idea but $80 a reel is a little hard to swallow.

Ten years ago my job and life situation required a fair bit of travel  At that time fuse wire was off the shelf for just a dollar or two .  Maybe a polite request to overseas hams to do a little shopping trip to the iron mogler would come up with something useful.

Alternatively maybe I should be thinking about designing a cheap reliable solid-state fuse.

What are the specs of the fuse you need?

Gotta find an alternative.
$15 a *pop* (pun intended) for the original-type fuse
is out of the question.  I'll shelve the radio first.
Too many kids to feed for $15 fuses.
