G'day list-members:
on eBay, Number is : 270992348844
Seller says: "This one is a very rare Reciever. I've never seen a Model
92 like this. It is huge, measuring approx 26" x 13" x 14" high, the
whole cabinet has been cast or machined making it a very heavy unit
weighing about 100lbs. There is very little information that I could
find out about this particular receiver. I see there are 7 vacuum tubes
in top. There is room for 7 pull out/plug in coil packs."
I ask: As some-one who know nothing about the technology of Imperial
Japanese Forces, what does the group say about this "thing", and
function. Presumably it would have a naval origin. For example, the
underside appears to be have an astonishing number of fuses. (I count
14) What would these be for? The set appears to have type "76", "238"
and 6A7 tubes. I presume these are the US types, so what are tubes from
USA doing in a Japanese military receiver? Do Japanese military radios
routinely use US "tubes"? (Perhaps this is why Japan attacked USA.
They needed to acquire the radio "tube" maker's factory for their radio
sets so that they would have spare "tubes" in case USA attacked Tokyo
harbour?)
Could the unit be a transmitter + receiver? It would help if to see the
nomen plate clearly.
