Hmmm...although I cannot quote a specific instance, I DO know that when an American radio
man was shot down somewhere in the Pacific, an Aussie coast-watcher rescued him and put
him to work.
There was a program on PBS some time ago about this. The Aussie's statement about the
American's CW ability was that, "...he was accurate enough, but his Morse was a little
slow...".
During the program, the American radio man (both men were still alive and in their 80s at the
time this program was filmed), mentioned that his code speed was around 30 wpm at the
time.
If the Aussie thought the American's "...Morse was a little slow...", neither one of them could
have been using a straight key. (!!!!!!)
