hi , the SCR522 was in effect the T/R  1143 . this was the standard british vhf set . the advantage was that 4 channels were available at the push of a button . also distant enemy receiving stations could not pick up aircraft transmissions or the ground stations. the control boxes with red buttons were used by several RAF radios such as the 1196 which was hf .however , i bet many more ARC5 s are around ! alan G4GEN
