[ARC5] Off Topic, Hallicrafters SX-38

Hi,

I'm voting with Geoff on the regens. I had a S38 briefly and it was so
very miserable that I passed it on to somebody who didn't know any
better within a week! For free. I do have to live with myself. I had and
used a Knight Star Roamer not a stellar performer but not quite as
useless as the S-38 (opinion). I used it successfully for several years.
Saying the Star Roamer is superior to the S38 is really saying bad
things about the S38!

Regens don't have to be built for use near large naval guns (RAK/RAL) to
be far superior to some superhets. The SW-3 seems to do a pretty good
job. Regens and superhets have their own strengths and weaknesses and
either can do a good job. Either can be so cheaply and poorly made as to
be "useless". I have and *use* both regens AND superhets. Some receivers
are superhets with regen detectors.

I do have mil surplus and ARC-5 receivers here and they are *ALL* better
than than anything like an S38 or Star Roamer. So now we are back on
topic <grin>
