Thanks to the various folk who wrote "Don't go near the S-38 series."
After reading several reviews about this set on eHam, I decided to ask
further afield i.e. this list.

I got a consistent reply - NO!  I'll take the answer as worth having.

Thanks you, everyone, for putting your fingers to kbd to give me the
answer I needed.
I'll spend my energy on a more worth-while set.
