More likely, the silicone oil makes a non-conducting coating on the
Residual Gas Analyzers used to detect Freon leaks in a sub. Freon leaks
are taken very seriously as a sub does not want to have to surface because
all the food is rotten.
That's also the reason aerosol cans were banned. One spritz of deodorant
would set off the Freon alarms.
Silicone oils are very bad news in anything vacuum. They will render RGAs
useless.
