I came to know more about what was being offered in the Washington area 
than the people in charge - not hard. At one point the Navy needed to 
find a particular transceiver for patrol boats out of Dahlgren and the 
officer in charge came and asked me if there were any in surplus. There 
were, I pointed them out. They retrieved them and fixed up the boats. 
The transceivers involved had been out of production for a while, and to 
replace them would have been very costly, but to budget for new ones 
would have taken a year.
