The German MG-34 and MG-42 machine guns, with their very high cylic rate 
of fire were pretty good, but probably wasted ammo. If you compare 
postwar Seimens teleprinters and Teletype model 32 and 33 units you will 
see the difference between German and US design philosophy. A lot of 
German stuff was exquisitely hand-fitted. Compare the "grease gun" 
American submachine gun to the German Mauser, too. I guess the Soviet 
AK-47 was the sweet spot between the US and German models.
