Gents:
There was NO guidance system on a V-1. The fixed launch ramps were the
means by which these things were pointed at their targets' approximate
locations. A small propeller on the nose of the craft counted revolutions
which corresponded to distance traveled at altitude. When the pre-set
revolutions were reached the V-1's control surfaces aimed the craft
downward.
As John wrote below, this was a terror weapon, not a strategic weapon.
The V-2 - now that's another story.
