Jay,

I wonder if you could fit a crystal from another holder into the
octal.  I think the octal type holder supports a squarish blank and I
don't think the exact width or thickness is necessary for a decent
fit.  Perhaps you can scavenge a low freq crystal blank from another
holder (800KHz represents a thick blank) and fit it into the octal
housing from a more common transmitter.  The exact parameters of the
rock are not important as it is not being used to excite a PA; the
ARC-5 circuit simply takes advantage of its resonance.
