Thanks to all for your very helpful and informative answers to my ARC-5 power supply question.
I have designed a novel - or if you prefer- strange- power supply circuit that will meet the requirements. I plan to do a mechanical implementation that allows the power supply to plug into the dyanomotor deck but I also want to keep the metalworking or plastic-working requirements to a minimum. It uses a $6 new stock transformer, has voltage regulation instead of a choke and also a HV over-current shut down function that among other benefits protects the HV regulator semiconductor pass element. Parts are all inexpensive, widely available, and easily substitutable. HV output can be easily set from about 60 to about 300 vdc.
With the information provided by this group I can tweek the power supply power/current ratings and shave the parts cost a little more. As I said in my first e-mail I have several receivers I would like to get operational. I intend to do pcbs and then- in my grand plan- somehow find the time to document the design perhaps as a ER article if they are interested.
Thank you for your assistance. I'll keep the group informed of my progress but this is a spare time project for me over the next couple months.
