[ARC5] 400 & 800 cycle power aboard ship

A too-generous friend sent me an original 
800-cycle rotory to run the GP-7.
I haven't put it into the rebuild que yet.
One end has a "cooling fan" assembly
which is built just like a mechanical, rotory siren.

No wonder they're so loud.  

Since the rig will be operated "hobbiest duty cycle" 
and not as it would in an 8-hour sub-hunter flight,
I've been thinking of removing the "siren" from 
the end to see if it can be run at a tolerable 
noise level without overheating.  Thoughts?
