Not what you need but on topic
Yeaaaars ago we used to wire aircraft with Mil W5086/2 or aka Mil W5086
type 2 wire.
See
http://www.wirefacts.com/Images/MIL-W-5086-2.jpg

Anyway the old stuff that laid in the fuselages in the heat were frequently
prone to cracking of the outer thin clear jacket and it would strip off.
Anyway I played with some old stuff I have here that the jacket had pealed
off of
and discovered the woven covering can be colored with a permanent marker
aka Sharpie. For short pieces for restoration purposes this might be one way
out.
So haunt the airports where they might be retrofitting an old bird and
scavenge.
May the best scrounger win.

While on the wire topic, does anybody know where to get the type of
ignition wire used on WW II Jeeps and such.

It is about 7 mm OD, with a stranded copper core (both easy), BUT has
black or white rubber (not PVC !!!) insulation (seems very rare)? The
rubber stays flexible.

I need some 10-20 foot lengths it for the lead-in wire on the long-wire
antennas for the WS 19 sets.

Best,

-John
