Besides the sheer coolness of authentic WWII wrinkle finishes, another reason for using wrinkle paint is it's excellent ability to hide the grain on wooden cabinets. Although it is not mentioned in the article, the cabinet of my homebrew acorn regen featured on the cover of ER #203, Oct 2008 is made of 3/16" plywood for the top, bottom and sides, while the back is 0.050 aluminum. Attached are some photos showing the uniform wrinkle finish that can be achieved with two light coats of spray-can Signal Corps green wrinkle paint. I just followed the application instructions that come with the can. If these photo attachments don't come through on the arc5 list, try the tetrode (glowbugs) list. Everything that has been said about the heaviness of the second coat being directly proportional the heaviness of the wrinkling is absolutely true. One of the things that I couldn't achieve on this job was uniformity of the wrinkling on the front edges of the cabinet. As shown in one of the photos, there is no wrinkling at all on these edges as spraying enough paint on the edges would result in non-uniform coating on the top, bottom and sides. I would have done the front panel with the same wrinkle finish, but I ran out of paint and had to use some model airplane OD paint for it. Mike, W6MAB

First, I have no idea why anyone would want to wrinkle paint something other than sheer WWII authentic coolness. Aside from the application issues, as I am sure you have found - the stuff is ab-so-lute-ly terrible when it comes to cleaning. It holds dust and dirt like nothing else; I am surprised they don't make mops out of it.
