Folks,

a couple of weeks ago I came across an on-line forum dealing with
anti-aircraft matters - and it has a radar section. Its at:
http://www.anti-aircraft.co.uk/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.cgi?

Amongst the various posts there are photos and details of a few
surviving ground radars from WWII, some of the really early ones. And
I received the following comment from Brian Mendes in Canada regarding
one of these that is just rusting away......

best regards

Richard

Hi Was pleased to read your post on the Anti Aircraft.co.uk website. I
may have been one of the last UK military personnel to be trained on the
AA radar No 3 Mk 2. I later served with a HAA Regt RA which was re
equipped with the AA radar No 3 Mk7 and qualified as an operator
instructor, after attending a short course at the School of AA
Artillery, Manorbier, Wales.
I have lived in Canada for many years and one of my interests has been
in trying to create awareness of the existence of an AA radar No 3 MK 1,
which sits neglected in the open storage yard of the RCA museum in
Shilo,Manitoba ( see photo on the AA website) Unlike so many of the WW
II mobile military radars found around the world, much of the original
interior pre solid state electronics is still in place, but in need of
preservation. To date I have been unable to persuade.authorities to
grant the museum some dedicated funds to initiate some preservation
measures to ensure its proper care. I am of the opinion that had this
valuable and unique artifact found its way into the hands of
enthusiastic restorers ( like yourself ) its partial restoration would
have been under way by now.
Kind Regards Brian Mendes ( Kitchener, Canada )
