[ARC5] Reviving squealing "command" receivers (re-capping)

Ken,
I use the Heath QM-1 to make RF coils rather than using one of the GDOs.
It's really a little easier to use for this.
It's big and stable on the bench. You don't have critical positioning.
The GDO woks just fine when checking a L/C in a unit. Some also work as a
wave meter.
You need to try playing with it. You probably won't use it often but if you
are a scratch builder it can come in handy.
An example is cutting a Mini-Ductor to length. You can connect one end of a
Mini-Ductor to one binding post and use a mini-clip for the other end.
Connect to the Mini-Ductor until you find the other point for the inductance
you need.
But this is not easy with the 32TPI Mini-Ductors so I don't use them!
