Strange as it may seem, I was asked to do some consulting work on said
commercial (no, I'm not being paid...heh) They are trying to recreate
the ambiance of a control tower, similar to that in Taigh's photo at
http://www.twinbeech.com/images/Radio/glasshouse.jpg Prop rentals don't
bring much, but it would be on the order of $100-$200 depending on how
many of the parts below you can come up with. Shipping would be
reimbursed both ways, or if you are in the Chicago area, presumably they
would cover gas and parking in like manner. The equipment does not have
to be pristine - old and worn is fine - it does not even have to
work...you know how movies are - no dwelling on equipment details.
They'll build the plywood table. Here's what I suggested to them:
Pair of two or three receiver control heads - could be either ARC-5,
ARA, or SCR-274N - they won't be hooked up to anything anyway.
Pair of transmitter control boxes (BC-451s most likely - doesn't matter
much.)
Pair of LS-3 speakers, or something similar to the photo
Either a BC-366 or BC-1366 jack box
SCR-522 control head, or something that resembles it - one for an ARC-3
would probably work fine
The photo shows an unmounted BC-456 modulator on the far right, but I
don't think that's essential.
pair of T-17 microphones
Two era headsets
If you have some open wire cables they can tuck under the plywood panel,
that would be a plus, but not critical. Remember - it's the ambiance
they are trying to capture, not precise details.
They need all the pieces by this coming Wednesday, so they would have to
be shipped on Monday, or brought over by close of business on Wednesday.
If anyone can step up to the plate on this, please let me know by e-mail
and I'll send you the phone number of the contact at the production
design group that is putting this together.
No, you cannot be the tower operator...they already have an actor for
that... :-)
Very 73,
