A possible answer to Jay's original question, which
was whether this system was used on cruisers and battleships
for their catapult launched scouts, is to look for the YG
antenna system in photographs and movies of the period.

The antenna is a 4 foot square reflector, with 2 vertical
dipoles in front. It rotated at 2 RPM.

I don't know if any radar antennas matched the above description,
though.

Couple of oddball facts gleaned from the YG manual.

The system sent course information for 9 revolutions, or
4.5 minutes, then an ID for 1 revolution or 30 seconds.

The course signal were the morse characters
A D F G K L M N R S U W.  One character sent twice
in each 30 degree sector.

The ID signal consisted of 2 characters of

B C J O P Q X Y.

I wish Dave luck in trying to make a demo system. I will
be interested in the details.
