[ARC5] the age old battle of modify or sanctify and the Demill dilemma

How about a cogent argument on the top. Khmer Rouge!! my ass.  Oh well  no 
sense in getting into another round of Historical zeitgeist. Once again,  my 
point is that without ham radio as the primary user and collector and  
propagator of military radios, there would not be any equipment left to  debate. 
 Much of the WWII materiel was dumped in the ocean, buried in  European 
tips, or shredded to make beer cans.  I'd much rather rescue a  modified 
command set to preserve for the next ham generation than spend  countless days and 
nights trying to find parts to restore a de-milled GRC-106A  that's gone   
under the torch. or whacked with a sledge  hammer by convict labor.  If we 
hams and radio aficionados want to do  something truly helpful to the 
preservation of military radio junk, write a few  letters to your elected Federal 
politicians and ask them why tons and tons of  really nifty old radios are 
shredded or de-milled with the remains often being  shipped to China and 
India.....Now that's a task we should all agree on.  Maybe.
