As a young ham I had a BC455 that I played around with.
Not for real ham work but for fun. I foung it to be a neat portable receiver after I
rewired the tube sockets for 12 volts and found that the dynomotor worked just fine at half
voltage and so did the radio at one half B+.
I removed the AFC from the first IF and added a gimik capacitor between plate and grid and used it
as a Q multiplier with a separate gain pot to set the "Feedback". Even with the high frequency IF it
was quite sharp on CW.
Naturally this would not apply to a 453.

I recently tested an ex-BC-453 BFO coil with a 6C4 and it worked FB. You
could probably
squeeze a submini tube in next to the BFO coil although possibly heating
might cause some
drift. A SS circuit should do OK also - the smallest way to get power is
probably a dropper resistor
and a zener, or you could use the heater line (with a rectifier/capacitor
obviously if it isn't DC).
