True, BOTOH, the speed of light, used to define
wavelength now normally defined in m/s or km/s would be then be deifned in
mph or ft/s or yds/s and would result in different figures for what is now
defined as 80, 40,...6 etc. meter ham bands
IOW:
3x10(exp8)m/s / 50(exp6)Hz = 6 meters would become aprox. 1.86(exp5)miles/s
/ 50 or (1.86(exp5)x5280ft/3)yds/s /50 = "6.55 yard band"
which probably would be called the 7 yard band! So would ham bands
frequencies then be based on so many yards of wavelength? Very cumbersome
indeed compared to just metric,300/50 = 6 meters. (I sometime screw up in
decimal places/exponents when I do them in my head so you'd better check my
figures!)
I suppose UHF would be called so and so many mils bands.
Being a ham and having been in MARS and the miltitary, the metric system
(eg. xtals are specified in degrees, C), and days in hundred-hours,
were no problem for me when I arrived in DK.
That's my 2 cents for today, at least so far. (No farthings or pence, please
;0)
