Hi Les,
I am looking at the phasing SSB generator from Harry's Homebrew site. I
am looking at several other projects from there. He already has artwork
for a board somewhere I think. The board layouts are in a different part
of his web empire.
I have two of the Q5 receivers - a BC453 and an R23. One has black paint
and one is bare. I just recently acquired the 453 and I have operated it
at low voltage - 45 volts B+. I can see what i think is a tiny bit of
goo from one of the caps. The old R23 is laid up for a complete recap
job and some other repairs. The audio output transformer opened up some
time in the past before I got it and I mean to undo the crude patch job
that replaced it even if I substitute a different transformer. I was
able to use that one hanging off the I.F. of a general coverage receiver
with a 455 kc I.F. before it failed completely. When I get both of them
recapped I'll have two!
I am not the high priest of vacuum and I am unafraid/unashamed to use
tubes or solid state devices exclusively or in combination. I'm
interested in *using* the gear after I assemble (aka cobble) it and I'm
more interested in results than how pretty it is on the shelf. I am
newly interested in saving space. I thought I would have a lot more time
for homebrewing and hamming when I got retired but I only have a little
bit more time if even that. I hope to actually document some of my stuff
and put it on the web like some of the other list members do. I did put
a few pics of some of my schtuph here and there on the web but I don't
really know where it is any more. Maybe we'll get to chat on the air
q5er to q5er.
73,
Bill KU8H
