It's probably redundant but I'm obviously "in", Les. In fact I've been
experimenting with homebrew DSB on my own, and there's an active
discussion right now on the Glowbugs list regarding the "Islander" which
is a homebrew DSB transceiver from Cuba that has been promoted over the
years by Arnie CO2KK as a means of getting new hams on the air cheaply
and easily (if I may borrow that phrase). So I agree that would
probably be the better forum, especially since I've already got the
green-light from the membership there. If traffic gets so heavy that
people complain, we can always splinter off a new group but I hate to
see balkanization unless it's really necessary since developing an
understanding of each building-block of circuitry is of value to many
who may have parallel interests.
For example, the double-tuned RF input stage just described was noted as
a good way to add selectivity and passive gain to low-cost shortwave
receivers. And while I'm personally more interested in simple one-band
DSB right now, virtually everything is transferable to a filter-type SSB
rig, and more complex conversion schemes to cover multiple bands with
more features. As I've stated on Glowbugs, I think DSB, especially
using tubes, was leapfrogged by newer and better approaches back in the
day, but still offers a lot of bang for the buck for experimenters today.
