[ARC5] ARC5 List Treachery - Watch Out!

Hi Todd,

I emailed Mike off list but maybe I should put the info I sent him here
for everybody who might be interested.

I find that I get the same exact behavior with lists that I have set for
daily digest and not from lists that I have set for individual emails. I
see the reason for that is the digest has only *one* sender - the list
itself - and no other addressees. So a "private" reply (in my mail
client) goes to the only sender - the list - if it's a digest. It works
the other way if I get messages from a list as individual emails. Those
show the individual as the sender *AND* the list as an addressee. For
those using the "Reply" button makes a new message for the sender. Using
the "Reply All" button sends the new message to both the sender and
everybody else in the address (cc:) fields - the list.

If I want to send a new reply as a private message from a digest I have
to click on the other guy's email address in the header that is included
with his message or copy/paste it in place of the list address. I have
learned to pay attention whether I am replying to a digest or an
individual.

Your mileage may vary but I suspect looking at those settings will go a
long way toward getting you what you expect. All of the mail clients I
use including the online ones like Yahoo Mail and Gmail behave this way.
My preference is Evolution running on Linux but MS Outlook, Eudora, etc
all behave the same way.

I hope this helps a couple of people.

73,

Bill KU8H
