Technically, that's not correct.  The Navy version (the first model built) 
was the AYD.  The AYD was modified and re-nomenclatured as AN/ARN-1, usable 
by USN and AAF.  Which after mods to the JAN nomenclature system in early 
1943 was again re-nomenclatured as AN/APN-1.  As with ATC and other 
administratively re-nomenclatured sets, not all hardware got new nameplates and some 
did not get new nomenclature.
