Bowden cable (i.e., the stuff used on lawnmower throttles) is available from places like Aircraft Spruce in just about any length for $2.50 a foot. I have no idea if it will work for tuning, since it is usually used for push pull applications, such as carb heat and various trim controls.

Even better than standard Bowden cable is the larger and tougher version, usually plastic lined, used for boat control cables.  You should be able to get it at boat stores and marinas, but once again I have no idea if it rotates well.
