Hello Henry,
In a way, they are / were. The same kind of cable is used for driving
mechanical rev counters in motor vehicles and motor boats and mechanical
speedometers in motor vehicles. Almost any motor instrument repairer should
be able to supply this Bowden cable and its outer. You would need to fashion
the end fittings. But you will need to be quick - most modern vehicles use
electronic speedos and tachos. And then instrument repairers will become as
rare as TV repairers.
On the other hand, I can supply some of the original remote tuning cables.
What sort of length do you require?
