Thanks for reminding us of this, Paul.
I remember this info surfacing in the past.
We discussed possible sources of confusion,
including the likelyhood of ARA sets being
in the piles when the listing agent opened
the RAT-1 box on the top.
Another source of confusion could be that,
while the RAT-1 receivers were serial numbered
1-50 for each model, the accessories
such as dynamotors and drawers
were serialed 1-100.
This is why the "correct and complete" RAT-1
set would include:

One 13-20 MC receiver, one 20-27 receiver,
one control box, shock mount and rack,
all serial #1.
Two dynamotors, two local control drawers
and two remote control drawers,
serials #1 and #2.

RAT-1 set #2 would have dynamotors
#3 and #4, etc. Leave it to the 1930s-
1940s Navy to confuse nomenclature ;-).

Moreover- I have spent nearly two decades
trying to track RAT and RAT-1 items.
No receiver serialed over 50,
nor accessory serialed over 100,
has ever surfaced in all that time.
Respectfully,
Dave S.
