> As to the 'maker' Boonton Research and not ARC. In a way it is/was ARC
It took a bit of reading to untwist everything and build a sort of timeline
for what was presented in the article then combine it with other information
to get a more clear picture. This is what I got from it.
Aircraft Radio Corporation was created by RFL as the installation and
maintenance division for the equipment RFL designed and Stromberg-Carlson
built. At the same time (1929) that A.R.C.* took over the design functions
from RFL, Boonton Research Corp was formed as a separate entity which,
according to the article, lasted from 1929 to 1932. This was independent of
the change in A.R.C.'s role in relationship to RFL. When A.R.C. became the
top of that particular pyramid, RFL dropped to being a subsidiary still
engaged in research and instrument design with their radios built by the
newly formed Boonton Radio Corporation, much as they had been by
Stromberg-Carlson before.
* I use A.R.C. to keep it from getting mixed up with ARC - as in Aircraft
Radio, Communications in the JAN AN system - as has been done more than
once.
I cc'ed this to arc5 to see if there is any comment from those folks much
closer to the corporate structure than I am.
Best regards,
