Mike,
Would that radio receive signals from the "Monkey Turd" seismic transmitter? Somewhere here I've got a new one albiet with dead battery. Looks like sh*t to me...

A well-known example comes from a letter written to CQ magazine more than
0 years ago that asked the Surplus editor if the TBX set really was a "ground
ransportable [T] pigeon [B] used for identification and recognition [X]".
One of my favorite *real* JAN set nomenclatures is AN/USQ-42.
U = General Utility Use Installation
 = Special Type Equipment
 = Special Purpose
That clearly pins down exactly what the AN/USQ-42 does!
(In fact, the AN/USQ-42 is a portable VHF receiver the size of the AN/PRC-25
hat monitored signals from seismic intrusion detectors put out on trails and
round firebases in Vietnam. See http://www.prc68.com/I/USQ_Rx.shtml . I
ound one at a gunshow for $20...the seller had no idea what it was, and
either did I at the time.)
