YEs, as I remember that article, you break the original tubes  
(NOOOOO!!!) and put FET's into the bases.. then give the set  
appropriate ECC voltage.  You may short around the dropping resistor  
that feeds the neon lamp regulator.

I have it on paper only deep in some file.
