[ARC5] Coils and the winding thereof

Back before time when I was making receivers from 1930s Gernsback
publications, one of the things I did was to make coil forms by
finding something a decent amount under the final coil form diameter
(which was mostly guesswork), wrap it in waxed paper then wrap lengths
of newsprint that had been precut to the width I needed around it.
The layers were "glued" to the previous ones using spar varnish (of
which I had plenty) then, when the varnish was tacky, I'd wind the
coil so it would be held in place when the varnish completely dried.
This worked fine for TRF & regen receivers and I'm wondering if
there's any reason it wouldn't work for the transmitter[s] I have
planned. The maximum power out I want will be around 25 watts with a
more desirable output being 10 watts with the attendent reduced
voltages & currents so that shouldn't be an issue, and I can't think
of anything else that might become an irritation but I am sure I'm
overlooking something important. And thoughts or ideas?
BEst regards,
Michael, [wh]7HG :-)
