[ARC5] Start of W.W.II New Crystal Frequency?

Hi:

I've read that at the start of W.W.II the Army and Navy used different
H.F. Frequency bands.  That led to a problem when AAF planes were
searching for subs and needed to talk to the Navy.  So a new frequency
that was at the band edge of both services was needed so they could
intercommunicate.

Is that correct and if so what was the magic frequency?
