When I started with Command sets in the mid 50s, I probably had half a
dozen knobs like what Jack & Jay describe. I didn't have my first
6743 until the 70s at which point I managed a few of them, all of
which went to the Smithsonian (with a bunch of other stuff) when I
moved aboard STARDANCER in 1985. Now I've got a 6743 or two but would
like a couple of the ones I had, including one which had a bakelite
knob and a metal disk with a 0-100 scale engraved on it. All the
non-A.R.C. ones seemed to be based on the same pieces and, looking
back, I can't help but wonder if the basic parts didn't come from the
kits for making flex shafts - or from just cutting the ends off of
them.
Best regards,
