It *certainly* was extremely rare, when this hack job was done.

How many ARA-2 CBY-46181 receivers has *anyone* on this list ever
seen before???  Or ARA-1 or ARA-2 receivers of any sort?

The common ARA equivalent was the CBY-46145.  The RAV equivalent
was the CBY-46103.  I don't know what the ARA-1 equivalent was.

Anything ARA-1 or ARA-2 has always been rare to the point of
non-existence, even 65 years ago.

Judging by the black nomenclature plate, the ARA-2 must have been
a 12 vdc system.  Apparently, the ARA-1 and -2 were not closely
equivalent to the later AN/ARC-5 receivers, because as seen in this
example this ARA-2 does not have the loop connections and switch
that were re-introduced with the R-24/ARC-5.  The original RAV
CBY-46103 had those loop connections.  The ARA removed them.
