Welcome, Bob. The other fellows here are an absolute
wealth of CORRECT information on ARC-5 gear.

However, I would very strongly advise you to view those
early articles on surplus gear and their "conversions" to
ham use as nothing more than curiousities.

They are, quite simply, full of misinformation, inaccurate
and false understandings of how the equipment works,
and, in short, are essentially useless.

Although there are far more useful sources of information
on the web than my own, you may find the couple of
articles I have posted there which were written by Dave
Stinson on the proper use of the "ARC-5" transmitter of
value.

Here is the URL to those:

http://www.mines.uidaho.edu/~glowbugs/arc5pages.htm

I will add links to the more useful sites to that page as soon
as I can, and after I have received permission to do so from
the owners of those sites.
