[ARC5] Connector and connectors

After receiving thousands of requests (Okay, only one but I get so
little personal email I re-read it a lot.), I'll be putting up
pictures of the mystery connector on my blog. The word will be spread
when that happens.
After staring at the 9585 & 6962 connectors for a while and already
knowing about the fast & easy way to convert a PL-153(-A) to use as
substitutes, it occured to me that inserts for the various Type 12 et
al 19 pin connectors should work as well if put in one of the large
shells as used with the 12 & 18 pin connectors. The unused position
would have to be plugged since the keying function would be lost
otherwise. The threads match (1-5/8"-24) and the shells appear to be
the same thickness so I can't see any mechanical issues with this.
Of course, they won't be pure anymore which will upset a few people
but ... well, that's not my problem. In a choice between keeping the
MD-7 and MT-71 original or swapping the connectors so I can use
PL-153(-A)s - the choice driven by the unobtainium status of the 9585
& 6962 connectors - I went with the former. If someone wants to cough
up a pair of either connector I'd really prefer using them, otherwise
I'm gonna ham-hack my way to fame and glory. Or something.
BEst regards,
Michael, WH7HG
