From what I gather, most list moderators do not allow references to
specific auctions which include a reference to the auction site.It
would be giving free adverising to the auction site.

Subject: [Milsurplus] Cryptic ebay auction postings
Real nonsense...these postings, I mean, not the auction item, which I
did not
waste my time looking up.
Something I don't understand is why so many of these messages are
posted
referring to an auction item without ANY indication of what the item is
or why
it is noteworthy. Obviously it is some juvenile desire to hold us all
in
suspense until we go through the generally wasted effort of looking up
the item
to see why the original list posting was a shock to the original poster.
Simple, decent, common courtesy would dictate that in such messages you:
1. Accurately describe the item, or at the least state the equipment
nomenclature.
2. State what it is about the item that has sparked the posting.
3. Include the complete URL so that several step aren't required to
reveal the
treasure/travesty that is being cited.
If you can't be bothered to do these simple tasks, you are insulting
ALL the
members of the list.
I'm sure that this message won't change anyone, but at least you'll
know what I
think.
