Hi, Folks,

Bruce Sugarberg put me onto this auction:

http://cgi.govliquidation.com/auction/view?id=1635553&convertTo=USD

This is amazing. Those are the dynamotors for the ARN-59 ADF receiver
which A.R.C. replaced by a dynaverter in the late 1950s. The quoted
individual purchase price is $3539 EACH which is closer to the
purchase price of the entire ARN-59 system (although even that seems
high unless A.R.C. charged a lot extra to make up the military vs.
civilian ID tags) including shipping etc.

Redstone Arsenal has four or five like auctions, two with eleven
dynamotors and the rest with ten. I wonder what corner of what
warehouse they dug these out of. But it does offer hope that more
post-war A.R.C. equipment is still hanging around waiting to be found.

But the really amazing part is that they require an EUC. Okay, let me
think here. The B-52 and the C-131 are both 1950s aircraft and both
are still operational. I think there are a few others but those are
the biggies that come to mind. Never mind the minor detail that the
equipment's been available as surplus for decades, it now requires an
EUC and all the nonsense that goes with one.

I can almost but not quite see the reasoning behind a EUC but, to be
honest, it's more like the McCarthy "Commie witch hunts" where
everyone was Red unless proven otherwise. Substitute "terrorist" for
"Communist" then add in the same brand of zealots who tried to get the
international Morse code classified as top secret and the situation's
not all that different.

Our government at works and play.

Best regards,

Michael, WH7HG
