I don't have anything in writing supporting this but my understanding from
dim and unsubstantiated memory is that some prototypes were built but had
nameplates changed before any were shipped. I have also always assumed that the
connector changes were made to the originals but I don't know that to be a fact.
We do know that the BC-950's that were converted to T-23's had the rear
connector changed. I've actually had one or more converted and unconverted units.
I do agree that they shouldn't have been called ARA/ATA, but there are
numerous other examples of that mistake!
Not to pick nits but several of the connectors are also interchangable
(PL-147, 148, 151, 152 and 156, their -A versions and their 4-digit versions). Plus
PL-153 (or variants) is used in some installations. I've forgotten exactly
which one(s). Also the 77 or 3146 connector.
