I wonder if A.R.C. had a chance to test actual transmitter
installations
in aircraft such as the B-17, etc.? They owned an aircraft that was
based at their field, but it was obviously not a 4-engine job. I don't
recall seeing ARL or NRL tests on full size aircraft. Mosts of the
tests
were done on the bench. I have to assume that A.R.C. at Boonton had
some
kind of mockup arrangement to simulate large metal aircraft.

Maybe they got some lumber, aluminum sheets, and riveting tools and
built a rough aircraft top half somewhere near their labs. They could
then mount an antenna mast on top and test things out easily.
In WW II, things were pretty rough and ready. They could likely have set
such a thing up in a couple of days... no zoning hearings required !!
