It is, and the model "D" is the decendent of the earlier model "B."
Both were designed by A.R.C. and built under license by Stromberg.
A.R.C.'s relationship with Stromberg (and Western Electric)
predated WWII by more than a decade.

I've never seen one, other than in photos.
An early military adaptation that was incorporated in SCR-AF-183
was on Ebay some years ago, which went for more
than I could afford at the time.  Later versions of
SCR-A_-183 used receivers a generation updated
from, but still very similar to, the model "D."
