All,
I set my drill press on it's lowest speed and chucked up one end of
the cable. The other end of the sheath I lightly clamped in the
vise.Started the press motor and slid the sheath at the drill end down
a bit with left hand and then took a dab of wheel grease with my right
fore finger and started feeding it onto the spinning cable.Sure enough
the grease was pulled in,slowly, as the pitch of the cable is small.I
let it run for a few minutes and fed in another finger dab and let that
run for a bit. Then more and again more.I let it run for a while, then
shut off to inspect the other end.I didn't see any new grease yet but
the cable did work much more smoothly. So to shorten the process I added
a few drops of 30 wt in that end.I cleaned up the outside of the sheath
with a small brass wire brush ,then a spray of WD-40 and a good
rub-down with a clean rag.
I think Buck Rodgers, in the 23rd century, will find this cable still
quite useable!
